Not Just For Babies: 5 Unique Ways To Use Baby Food

One of my favourite things while building Baby Gourmet over the years has been the constant surprises, inspiration and feedback we get from moms. With that in mind, I decided to share the top five fun and unique uses I've come across for baby food.

Facial exfoliate:

Moms and bloggers have sent us multiple recipes using our organic oatmeal cereals (and sometimes even fruit and veggie purees) in homemade facial scrubs like these ones: https://www.byrdie.com/oatmeal-facial-masks-2442870. In this post author Gerrie Summers says, “Oatmeal is more than just a cereal that helps lower high cholesterol. Your skin’s surface will also enjoy a bowl of this nutritious grain. Oatmeal contains avenanthramides, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds that soothe itchy, dry and irritated skin. Oatmeal is also great for acne-prone skin because it absorbs oil from the skin’s surface. All of which makes oatmeal a perfect ingredient for facial masks.”

We think this is a genius hack!

Extreme sports:

Ultra-marathoner Mike Suminski (known in his industry as "The Trail Guy") wrote to us crediting our Baby Gourmet fruit and veggie purées with helping him train and compete. https://how2runfast.com/post/24532578034/can-baby-food-fuel-your-next-ultramarathon

The combination of high altitudes and long distances makes it hard to digest solid food. Mike first tried our baby food at the recommendation of his naturopathic doctor when training for his Leadville 100 mile trail race. It's remarkable that the same basic healthy organic fuel for babies is also serving extreme athletes at 10,000 feet!

Baking:

I love using baby food purées as a dairy substitute in baked goods. My Chocolate Crack-Ups(link to recipe) with Juicy Pear & Garden Greens recipe is a delicious dairy, egg and nut-free brownie bite is a sneaky way to get kids to eat their greens.

Seasonal treats:

Add a cute note like “Will You Peas be my Valentine?” to our Tropical Green Smoothie that contains pea protein, or tuck some of your baby or toddler’s favourite Baby Gourmet products into their Christmas stocking or Easter basket during the holidays.

Coping with TMJ:

TMJ, short for Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction, is a painful dysfunction of the muscles that moves the jaw, making it painful to eat. One Facebook fan shared the following on our page:

"I just discovered your product in Alberta. I just bought one box of Squoosh. Not for a baby though – for myself. I have a very bad TMJ problem making eating difficult. This stuff tastes great, is nutritious and requires no chewing. I am hooked! Might be for young children but it certainly works for me. This is a great alternative and change from the nutritional shakes like Ensure out there."
